Kinderkunsthaus

Public Spaces

Since May 2011 the Kinderkunsthaus, an art studio for children of all ages, is open to the public in Munich. On weekdays visitors can take part in the open art program, after having paid a small admission charge. Children can choose between different hands-on art activities and stay as long as they like during the opening hours. Together with parents, grandparents or friends, exploring, designing and creating in the Kinderkunsthaus is great fun for everyone. In a playful way imagination, creativity and manual abilities, but likewise the children’s media literacy, are fostered. Hence next to traditional art and craft techniques, like painting, drawing or making models, modern methods of designing with multimedia equipment are also taught to the visitors. E.g. digital photography and image editing or the making of stop-motion-movies.

Several “creativity-spaces” invite the visitors to participate in experimenting with different artistic material. In the atelier, children can paint, draw, form or print. The writer’s corner encourages the visitors to explore the alphabet, write stories and poems or create their own books. The inventor’s club is all about inventing, building, constructing and designing new things. At the handicraft corner, children can experience different kinds of handicraft, make collages or create beautiful jewellery. The media laboratory is dedicated to the eclectic possibilities of creating with digital, electronic and interactive media. Here, children get the chance to explore the world of digital photography, animation, movie making and the internet. Apart from the open program at the “creativity-spaces”, the Kinderkunsthaus also offers special workshops, holiday programs and weekly courses. Morning programs can be booked by schools and kindergardens.
