Steel pipe classic S 43 – an exemplary design in the spirit of modernity. Mart Stam, one of the leading architects, put the widely discussed idea of a cantilever into action and created a design that has gone down in the history of furniture. Using a resilient steel pipe frame, he succeeded in redirecting the forces acting on the chair and putting it on two feet. The S 43 combines the steel frame with modeled plywood shells for the seat and back. Because of the comfortable swing effect of the frame, cushions are not needed.
