S 35 LH Stool
The S 35 LH stool in the design of Marcel Breuer for Thonet belongs to the collection of the S 35, with which Marcel Breuer succeeded in constructing all the functions of a free-swinging tubular steel chair in a single continuous line that also includes the armrests. The designer Marcel Breuer achieved a double cantilever effect with his design. The seat of this designer furniture and the armrests spring independently of each other. The swinging movement of the rear cantilevered seat and back frame is balanced by the sprung armrests. For additional comfort there is a matching footstool – also free-swinging. The comfortable club chair S 35 was first shown in 1930 during the now famous presentation of the Deutscher Werkbund at the “Salon des Artistes Décorateurs” in Paris. There he was part of the furnishing of a prototype high-rise apartment, which Breuer realized together with Walter Gropius and Herbert Bayer.
