Restaurant Noma in Kopenhagen

Written by Olivia Janssen in

Restaurant Noma in Copenhagen has been awarded for ‘Best Restaurant in the World’ four times. It goes without saying that its interior is smashing too. Design studio Space Copenhagen was in charge of the renovation of the restaurant, which is known for seasonal dishes and ingredients straight out of the forests, such as mushrooms and berries.

Designers Peter Bundgaard Rützou and Signe Bindslev Henriksen wanted the design to feel real and down-to-earth, combining exquisite details with elegance. They explained ‘It’s mostly about using raw materials like wood, stone, leather, metal and linen, all of which age beautifully over time.’ Space Copenhagen changed the original brown colour tones inside to subtle blacks and greys, replacing the existing tables and chairs with their own collection Ren, which was designed for Stellar Works. Furry seat covers were added to the chairs and the entire restaurant flooring was laid in beautiful oak wood. The most significant change was to the lounge, which now has a distinct Scandinavian feel.
