Milanese design in a brand new hotel

Written by Anne-Marie den Hertog in

The newly opened Hotel Room Mate Guilia manages to combine a vintage Italian aesthetic, with plenty of modern touches. The brainchild of designer Patricia Urquiola, the hotel manages to deliver a distinctly unique feel throughout, while ensuring both the common areas and each of the 85 bedrooms maintain a homely vibe.

Urquiola has utilised pink marble throughout the interiors, immediately throwing up comparisons to the impressive interiors of Milan Cathedral, while terracotta brickwork harks back to timeless Milanese architecture. Internationally renowned for its artistic history and design credentials, it’s only right that local artists, photographers and illustrators have been called upon to help decorate the breath-taking interiors.

Visitors can enjoy designer-level detail down to the last inch, with custom-made bedding, tables, sofas, curtains and soft furnishings by Cassina. The hotel takes pride of place in the heart of Milan, just a short stroll from the Piazza del Duomo and the Vittorio Emanuele Gallery.
