Award winning architecture studio bfs d re-designed this atrium house, built in 1957, in Berlin’s Tiergarten. The modernist building was originally built for the 1957 International Building Exhibition held in Tiergarten Park, Berlin. It was designed by Eduard Ludwig, a German architect and member of the Bauhaus movement.
The building was bought from an elderly lady who had kept it in its original condition. The new owner asked bfs d to come up with a new contemporary design for the house and garden, including furnishings and features. The house being listed as a historic monument, which limited the options available, made this request challenging. Nevertheless, bfs d did a wonderful job restoring the house to its former glory.
We were especially impressed by the combination of beautiful vintage pieces contrasting with new furniture and lighting by Artek, Rolf Benz, Porro and Flos. Honourable mentions should also go to the Eames fiberglass chairs, and the beige ceramic tiling from Ann Sacks.
