Brutalist design at its most beautiful

Written by Olivia Janssen in

When botanical beauty brand Aesop looked to open their latest store in Munich, something very special indeed was called for. Einszu33, responsible for their Stuttgart, Leipzig and Hanover stores, were tasked with the design project and the results are truly something special.

Taking their design inspiration from the brutalist design influences of the nearby area, the designers utilised statement-making textures and materials. An oversized concrete counter takes pride of place in the centre of this space, perfectly complementing the low concrete ceilings and industrial aesthetic that runs throughout the store.

The austerity inspired interior creates a simple retail space that draws attention to what’s important. Simple shelving and stacking ensure products stand out, while the practical areas of the store are instantly visible. But beyond the stone and concrete signatures, there’s plenty to soften the harsher edges. Velvet panels and a dusky pink palette breathe warmth into the space, while the polished chrome of spotlights and soft, diffused shades at the counter round things off beautifully.
